PM Optimization
When assessing existing PM programs, it is not unusual to find that 40-60% of the PM tasks add no value. These procedures are either not technically feasible or worth doing, or both. In a case study leveraging a single cartoner asset, People and Processes, Inc.’s consultants eliminated unnecessary PM procedures. When applied across two similar cartoners on the site, the action stopped over one thousand PM procedures that would have been triggered on those three assets annually. Many maintenance groups believe they lack adequate staffing, yet as indicated in the case study above, they spend way too much time performing work that does not add value or address the likely failure modes. It is not uncommon to find the operations function adding to the troubles by requesting additional PM procedures when a failure occurs over understanding the root cause and adjusting the PM program accordingly if required.
The challenge for maintenance organizations is to define the likely failure modes and properly optimize their PM program, only doing the right maintenance work at the right time and in the right way. Many PM optimization efforts occur without the participants understanding how to define the appropriate maintenance strategy for their assets. With 84% of failures self-induced and 40% of those due to human error, doing the wrong PM tasks can introduce a failure to an otherwise stable system, especially with intrusive maintenance approaches.
To that end, People and Processes, Inc. developed our 2.5-day PM Optimization training course to help organizations proactively determine the best approach for PM optimization practices. The 2.5-day course is instructor-led in either a virtual online platform or in a physical onsite training space.
Who should attend:
Knowledgeable equipment operators on the anticipated assets for review, Production supervisors, Quality personnel familiar with the assets, Maintenance management, Reliability engineers, Maintenance supervision, Maintenance technicians experienced with the assets, Potential optimization facilitatorsRecognize that in some ways RCM2 Analysis or PM Optimization efforts are the easy part. In reality, the harder part is IMPLEMENTING the findings into the CMMS and work execution management systems. These are foundational and if not effective, the output of an analysis becomes ineffective too.
